Ronald L. Zimmerly, Jr., President and CEO of Liberty National Bank, recently announced the bank’s participation in the Welcome Home Program, a grant sponsored by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati. The program is designed to assist eligible homebuyers with down payment or closing costs when buying a home.

The Welcome Home Program provides up to $2,500 in grant money for low to moderate income homebuyers and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Honorably discharged veterans and active-duty military homebuyers may receive Welcome Home grants up to $7,500.

RSVP Feb. 16 luncheon at the Inn at ONU

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the January Membership Meeting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19 at the Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main. Breakfast will be served at the meeting, according to Heather Cox, membership chairperson.

In February, the chamber meeting will be an Annual Meeting Luncheon at noon on Wednesday, February 16. This event will take place at the Inn at ONU. The price of the luncheon is $20 per person. For reservations, contact Deb Curlis at [email protected] or 419-788-9459. 

Mary Lou Carman, age 94, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 13, 1927, in Lima, Ohio to Wendall Miller and Dorothy Elizabeth Miller Pickering.  In December of 1943, Mary Lou married Carl Carman, Jr., who preceded her in death on December 11, 2010.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughter Carla Jo (Mark) Oberly of Harrod; five grandchildren: Shirley Davis, Bonnie (Gregory) Pieper, Turmak (Annette) Davis, Derrick (Courtney) Oberly and Amanda (Kellen) Dunlap; and nine great grandchildren.

The Ada High School girls basketball team suffered a long first-half scoring drought and lost to league-leading visitor Delphos Jefferson 57-27 in Northwest Conference action Thursday night, January 13.

The Bulldog girls fell behind 17-3 after the first period against the tough press and physicality of the 12th-ranked Lady Wildcats. 

Ada junior guard Courtney Sumner spearheaded an 11-2 second quarter run, but DJ pulled away for good with a 22-7 third stanza.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 4-11 overall and 0-5 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, the Lady Wildcats improved to 14-1 and 4-0 in the NWC with the victory.

On January 13, newly elected member Ted Griffith takes the oath of office to serve on the Board of Education for the Ada Exempted Village School District.

Ada community members are invited to join a celebration of the life of Wayne Simon, who passed away at his home in Florida on December 13, 2021. Wayne is a 1965 graduate of Ada High School. 

The Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19 at Crimson Lane, 4600 CR 1, Ada, Ohio 45810. There will be a small ceremony and refreshments afterward.
