VanBuskirk hired as Ada Schools superintendent at Oct. 21 meeting
UPDATED NOVEMBER 12, 2021: Approved minutes are now attached at the bottom of this story.
The Ada Board of Education met for approximately 30 minutes on Thursday, October 21. The meeting was held in a room in the District Office/Gymnasium building.
The board unanimously approved the minutes of a Regular Meeting held on September 15, 2021, a Special Meeting held on September 28, 2021, and a Special Meeting held on October 5, 2021.
The board heard administrative reports from Robin VanBuskirk, Director of Teaching and Learning (via internet connection); Dan Lee, High School/Middle School Principal, and Ben Thaxton, Elementary Principal. Superintendent Larry Claypool read a report provided by Tim Garmon, Maintenance and Transportation Supervisor.
The board approved the treasurer’s report from Kim Light, Treasurer.
There was no old business.
In new business, the Ada Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Robin VanBuskirk as Superintendent of the Ada Schools for the period beginning December 1, 2021 and ending July 2023.
The contract is contingent on her providing evidence of obtaining and maintaining licensure to serve as superintendent. As noted above, VanBuskirk is currently employed as the Ada Schools’ Director of Teaching and Learning.
The board also unanimously approved the
- appointment of volunteer bus drivers
- retroactively approved certified substitute teachers
- approved a service agreement for the provision of a behavioral specialist
- approved rescinding a supplemental contract for Dexter Woods as Head Tennis Coach
- approved five supplemental coaching contracts for the 2021-2022 school year
The next Board of Education meeting was established for 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 18 (the time is earlier than the usual 6:00 p.m.).
