Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “The Importance of Being Earnest” from Sept. 25-27 at 7:30 p.m. There also will be two matinee performances on Sept. 27 and 28 at 2 p.m.
Oscar Wilde’s masterpiece “The Importance of Being Earnest” focuses on two bachelor friends, upper-crust dandy Algernon Moncrieff and the most reliable John Worthing J.P., who lead double lives to court the attentions of the desirable Gwendolyn Fairfax and Cecily Cardew. The gallants must then grapple with the uproarious consequences of their ruse and with the formidable Lady Bracknell.
How long have you been teaching at Ada High School? I began my 35th year on Aug. 18.
What do you do at ONU? I instruct labs for first year chemistry students. My normal assignments are Engineering Chemistry in the fall and Introductory Chemistry (mainly pharmacy/biology majors) in the spring.
Ada is the place to be this weekend! On Saturday, Main Street comes alive the same way it does every September – the Harvest and Herb Festival hits the street. This Saturday is also Family Day at ONU, and ONU is encouraging family members to visit the community of Ada as part of the festivities. We’re not kidding; Ada is the place to be!
This weekend is a great time to show some of your Ada Pride! Please help us keep our community looking great. If you see trash on sidewalks, please pick it up and place it in the appropriate trash receptacle. If the sunshine prompts you to mow, make sure your grass clippings are not on the sidewalks or in the streets.

Skirting the fleece, drop spindle, Turkish spindle, roving, drum carder, setting the twist, bobbin fleece, barber pole, alpaca, angora, cradle picker, spin the cloud, natural dyes--is your mind spinning yet? If so, just ask Elena (Monaco) Dearth of Ada to explain any of these terms to you, and she will weave you into her world of woolen fibers.
Elena, a native of the Adirondacks near Lake Placid in New York, will also weave a tale for you of the day she met Def Leppard as a teenager while working as a horseback riding tour instructor.
