A breakfast honoring those who have fought for our freedom was held at the Ada school on Veterans Day on Wednesday.
Enjoying the fare are (from left) Jim Pifer, Mike Hubbell, and the event sponsor Robert Hubbell.
Jim served in the Air Force, Mike is a retired principal and superintendent in Ada, and Robert served in the infantry in Korea.
The breakfast has been held for about 20 years with about 40 vets and their spouses attending this year. After breakfast, there was a video presentation by Mike Styer and students, a talk by David Archer, then taps.
Our Lady of Lourdes bake sale, lunch and bazaar is a popular place to go each year on Veterans Day.
Here, Terry Theodore shows a money tree that she contributed for the bazaar. Yes, money does grow in trees, at least in this instance. A packet of seeds of the money plant were attached, as well.

By Amy Eddings The Ada village council held a special meeting to take care of personnel issues on Tuesday.
Members approved the hiring of Justin Burris and Chris Kapa as temporary full-time construction and maintenance workers. They’ll be paid $9.62 an hour with no benefits, and the length of their employment will be from Nov. 12 to Jan. 23, 2016.
“We’re four people down in this area,” Mayor David Retterer said. “They’ll be doing leaf pickup and perhaps some snow plowing."
Reterrer said the former employees left for other jobs.

About 150 people attended the Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony on campus on Wednesday.

The program was held near the statue of Henry Solomon Lehr, university founder and Civil War veteran.
Members of the color guard of the Ream-McElroy VFW Post 9381 posted the colors.

Two local churches helped about 40 ONU students NOT eat last weekend.
As part of the religious life program on campus, the students volunteered not to eat for 30 hours to partially experience what its like to go hungry. And, the $700 they saved from not buying food went to World Vision.
The fast ended with a spaghetti dinner at the First Presbyterian Church.
During the fast, students were occupied on campus and at the First Baptist Church with time for worship, service projects, and games.
