Chris North has been to the Dominican Republic so many times, she’s losing track. North, professor of Communication and Public Health at Ohio Northern University, is planning another trip November 23-30. If memory serves her, it’s her “ninth or tenth.”
A program of ONU, the Dominican Republic trip this month will also include five students; Hannah Stokes, professor of psychology; and Jeff Allison, retired faculty member, College of Pharmacy. The congregation of Ada United Methodist Church also provides support, as it has for previous trips.
The No. 12-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team edged Otterbein 21-25, 25-23, 23-25, 27-25, 16-14 in the OAC Tournament Finals on Saturday afternoon in an incredible atmosphere at the ONU Sports Center.
ONU (26-5 overall) earn the OAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, winning its 21st OAC Tournament title. Ohio Northern head coach Kate Witte won her 15th OAC Tournament title.
Otterbein led 14-13 in the 5th set but a kill by senior Sydney Bapst (Grove City), a Cardinal attacking error, and another Bapst kill won the match for the Polar Bears.
Junior forward Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) has enjoyed a memorable 2019-20 season. She has scored the most goals by an ONU player in a single season since 1997, and she added to that total in thrilling fashion Saturday night at Kerscher Stadium.
Fuller netted her 20th score of the season in 102nd minute, which pushed the Polar Bears past Otterbein 2-1 in double overtime in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament title game.
Ohio Northern scored on its first three possessions, then got a key fourth quarter stop to hang on for a 35-28 Ohio Athletic Conference football victory over Baldwin Wallace on a chilly and breezy Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 5-4 overall and are 5-3 in the league, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 7-2, 6-2.
With the victory, ONU also clinched its 23rd upper division OAC finish in the past 25 seasons.
Senior Anthony McFadden (Chillicothe/Paint Valley) completed 12-of-17 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns and ran 16 times for 52 yards and a touchdown to lead the ONU offense.
