Free backpacks and school supplies available for K to 4th graders

First Baptist Church, Ada, will hold a back-to-school bash from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 4.

Free backpacks and school supplies will be provided for children who are in need in Kindergarten through fourth grade. Parents and caregivers must show proof of Ada residency.

The evening includes food, games, crafts, face-painting, an inflatable slide, free backpacks and free school supplies.

 

Many alfalfa and forage stands across the state took a beating this winter and the wet spring has added insult to injury, according to Mark Badertscher, OSU Extension-Hardin County.

Forage stands were damaged this past winter, and the wet spring has further deteriorated stands that appeared they might recover.  So what are the options to assuring a forage supply for the future? 

A Forages for the Future Program will be held Thursday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the St. Henry High School Commons, 391 E. Columbus St. in St. Henry.

Backpack Blessing at Upper Scioto Valley

The event is Saturday, July 27, from 4 to 8 p.m.  at 305 N. Main St., Alger.

Event sponsors say to bring your own lawn chair to enjoy an evening of local talent. Ice cream social and box lunches will be available.

105,000-square-foot facility nearly twice the size of Biggs Engineering Building

In spring 2018, construction officially began for the James Lehr Kennedy Engineering Building, the new home of the T.J. Smull College of Engineering.

Now, more than a year later, the final phases of construction are underway.

The 105,000-square-foot facility will be nearly twice the size of the current 55,000-square-foot Biggs Engineering Building and will feature space for collaboration, class projects and community-building, helping ONU remain on the cutting edge of educating engineers who make a difference.

Lily Baumgartner joins State of Ohio Team

On Sunday, July 7 Ada's Lily Baumgartner met a long-term goal by qualifying for the national AAA swim meet in the 50 butterfly.

She will now compete in Wisconsin on Aug. 1, at the highest level she can in the nation for her age group in USA Swimming.

Baumgartner, an incoming seventh grader at Ada Schools, is 12 years old and will be a part of the State of Ohio Team which will compete in the Central Zone championships.

The USA Central Zone Swim Championships is an All-Star format held each August where athletes represent their Local Swimming Chapters (LSCs).
