Freshman right-handed pitcher Tom Pitko (Youngstown/Austintown-Fitch) earned his first career pitching victory Monday evening and led the Ohio Northern baseball program to a 3-2 win over nonconference foe Albion (Mich.) in its 2019 regular season finale at Wander Field.
With the win, the Polar Bears end the regular season with a 22-16 overall record. The Britons conclude their regular season slate with a 22-18 overall mark.
Seven players from the Ohio Northern softball team have been awarded All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades for their performance during the 2019 campaign, the league office announced Monday.
Seniors Hailee Loughman (Brookville) and Kaitlin Surdej (Lancaster, N.Y./Central), junior Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry), and freshman Rachel Hish (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) each received All-OAC First-Team honors to lead the selections.

The 16th annual Hardin County Master Gardener plant sale begins at 9 a.m. on
Saturday, May 11, rain or shine at the Friendship Gardens of the Hardin County, which is a new location.
The Friendship Gardens of Hardin County is located behind the HARCO Workshop Building, 960 W. Kohler Street in Kenton. Parking is available at the garden.
Sponsored by the Hardin County OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers, there will be several Hardin County garden clubs and vendors at this annual event.
The public will find a wide choice of their favorite flowers, bedding plants, roses, herbs, trees and various other potted plants.
Ohio Northern University will hold commencement exercises for the Raabe College of Pharmacy as well as undergraduate colleges and the Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program on Sunday, May 12, in the ONU King-Horn Sports Center. The Pettit College of Law commencement is Sunday, May 19.
Approximately 637 students are earning their degrees this academic year, including 139 from the College of Pharmacy, 62 from the College of Law and 436 from the other three colleges.

Ada 4-H club, Liberty Belles and Boys, wanted to make Ada a safe community – so they did something about it.
Last summer the club held an ice cream social fundraiser. It generated $500 and the proceeds were recently donated to the Ada police department for surveillance equipment for the department’s S.A.F.E.R. program.
Project S.A.F.E.R. (Seeking Aid From Every Resident) is Ada's own community policing initiative started in January of 2002. It is a winner of the 2003 Ohio Crime Prevention's Community Policing Strategy Award, aimed at nurturing the relationship with the community.
