Thirty-three new international students from 26 countries and 77 new Dimension Award Scholars were invited to a meet-and-greet reception at the Business College on Wednesday evening.

Several administrators welcomed the new students saying that ONU is a safe place and diversity is encouraged on campus. Several student organizations had tables set up with information about their group and had representatives in attendance to further explain their organization's opportunities and goals.

ONU Symphony open to local residents who are musically talented

The Ohio Northern Symphony is expanding its scope to reach members of the community  and provide opportunities for talented musicians to play in an orchestra. There are openings for all string instruments, oboe, horn and trombone performers. The symphony rehearses Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7:50 p.m.and performs five concerts each year in Ada.

The Ada Kiwanis Club has decided that the annual Halloween parade, that they sponsor for the community, will be held on Monday, Oct. 23, this year.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on South Main in Kenton on from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The checkpoint is part of “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” high visibility traffic enforcement initiative covering the busy Labor Day weekend. A fatality occurs every 34 minutes in the U.S. during Labor Day weekend.

Sheriff Keith Everhart pointed out that highway safety data indicates
that highly visible enforcement campaigns reduce drunk-driving fatalities by
as much as 20%.

He said, "It's our goal to have an unmistakable presence, ready to arrest drunk drivers who put lives at risk.”
