ASHLAND - The Ada girls soccer team lost at Ashland Crestview 9-1 in Div. III sectional first round play Saturday evening to be eliminated from the tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs were seeded 12th in the 13-team district.
The loss dropped the Lady Bulldog record to 5-11. Ashland Crestview, the sixth seed, will play at second-seeded Liberty-Benton Oct. 18 in second round action.
The Cougars scored very early in the game and raced to a 6-0 lead by halftime. AC extended the margin to 9-0 before Ada scored its goal.
VAN WERT - Ada sophomore Abbie James finished 12th in the Northwest Conference cross country championship meet at the Van Wert Reservoir Saturday morning.
James covered the 3.1-mile course in 21:46 to post the top Ada girls finish among the 57-runner field.
The Lady Bulldog squad finished fifth at the meet while Columbus Grove won the girls team crown handily over second-place Lincolnview.
Sophomore Reece Evans posted the best Bulldog boys finish, coming in 21st out of 69 runners in a time of 19:13.
Ada only had three boys race, two less than the requisite five to field a team score.
On your marks, get set, go! The ONU Circle K and Ada Girl Scout Troop 21172 fun run and 5k Sunday raised funds for United Methodist Committee on Relief. It's safer to walk or ride a bicycle along the sidewalks in Ada after members of the tree commission and ONU students trimmed some of the low branches on the trees on Saturday morning.
Commission members plan a tree trimming session each fall.
These three commission members, volunteering their time, handling some serious equipment, plan to head out on the job. From left are Jim Neiswander, Angela Polachek, and Jamie Hall.

The Ohio Northern football team scored touchdowns on both of its overtime possessions and got a big defensieve stop on a 4th and 8 to hold on for a 27-20 double overtime victory at John Carroll on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks fall to 3-3, 3-2.
Sophomore Christiaan Williams (Sidney/Anna) ran 31 times for 212 yards, including an 18-carry, 159-yard effort in the first half. He also caught four passes for 82 yards and finished the day with 294 all-purpose yards.
