Neal Young hired as new ONU basketball coach
Neal Young has been named the head men's basketball coach at Ohio Northern. Young comes to ONU after winning three USA South titles in five seasons as head coach at Covenant (Ga.) College.
"I would like to thank Dr. DiBiasio and Tom Simmons as well as the rest of the hiring committee for this incredible opportunity," Young said. "My family and I are excited to get to Ada and begin the process of integrating ourselves into this community and investing in Polar Bear basketball."
He guided the Scots to a 79-47 record (a winning percentage of .627) and USA South titles in 2019, 2020 and 2022.
"I am very excited for the future of ONU Men's Basketball," ONU director of athletics Tom Simmons said. "But more than anything, I am excited for our student-athletes. We were blessed with an outstanding pool of candidates, and in Coach Young, I feel our current and future teams will see a man who's passion and excitement will be on display every day."
Prior to his time at Covenant, Young was the head coach at Goshen (Ind.) for four seasons from 2014-17, where he also served as an associate director of athletics.
Young was also an assistant coach at Lewis (Ill.) in 2012-13 and Goshen from 2009-11.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Anderson (Ind.) in secondary education in 2008 and a master's degree in organizational leadership from Lewis in 2013.
Neal and his wife, Maggie, have three children - Brooks, Finley and Sloane.
