Sara Jane Amstutz taught at Bluffton Elementary School
Sara Jane Amstutz, 92, passed away July 27, 2022 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. Sara Jane was born November 15, 1929 in Bluffton to the late Hiram and Mabel (Hawk) Huser. On November 22, 1951 she married Leland Amstutz who preceded her in death on May 24, 1990.
Sara Jane graduated from Bluffton High School in 1947 and received her bachelor's degree in education in 1951 from Bluffton College. She had been an elementary teacher at Bluffton Elementary School, retiring after 30 years. Sara Jane was a member of First United Methodist Church where she had been the church organist. She sang for close to 50 years in Handel's Messiah and was an active leader in the Girl Scouts and 4-H Clubs. Sara Jane enjoyed reading, canning, gardening and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Amstutz of Ada, four daughters, Deborah (David) Ferguson of Murray, Kentucky, Rebecca Amstutz of Anchorage, Alaska, Marilee (David) Shade of Burke, Virginia, Martha (Jeff) Neeper of Toledo; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2022 at First United Methodist Church, Bluffton with William Herr officiating. Private burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
