Police Chief Harnishfeger announces retirement date
After 21-plus years as Ada’s police chief and more than 38 years as an Ohio Law Enforcement Officer, Michael Harnishfeger has announced his retirement effective the end of June, 2023.
Chief Harnishfeger informed Mayor Retterer and Village Council of his intentions during an executive session of council on August 9. According to Chief Harnishfeger the Village of Ada will begin looking for his replacement immediately with plans for the village to employ the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police in their search, including an assessment center to be conducted by the chief’s association for the finalists, towards the end of 2022.
At this point resumes will be accepted for the position by the village until October 10. The village intends for the newly selected candidate to work alongside Chief Harnishfeger for several months in 2023 prior to his retirement.
According to Chief Harnishfeger, he plans on staying active in the law enforcement field as an Assessor with the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and conducting training seminars.
