AHS girls soccer seeded 9th in sectional

By Cort Reynolds

The Ada High School girls soccer team will play at seventh-seeded Upper Sandusky at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17 in Div. III sectional first round tournament action.

The Lady Bulldogs (5-9) were seeded ninth in the 12-team Bluffton sectional/district. Ada lost to visiting Upper Sandusky 4-2 on September 22, so they will get a chance to avenge that defeat.

The Ada/Upper Sandusky victor will play at second seed Van Buren (10-4-1) Thursday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs lost 9-1 at VB on October 6.

The winner advances to the district semifinals at Bluffton on Tuesday, October 25 likely against the winner between sixth seed Allen East (9-5-1) and third seed Riverdale (7-5-2).

"It's a decent draw for us," said Ada head coach Doug Dewese. "We are better than we were the first time we played Upper Sandusky, and we know what to expect.

"The girls are excited to play that game and feel confident we can put on a good showing," he added.

He noted that the team looks to be healthier as leading scorer Ella Marshall will be back after coming off of concussion protocol.

Ada will be without junior goalkeeper Katie Sizemore, who has been sidelined with a knee injury suffered Sept. 26, for the rest of the season.

Northwest Conference champion Bluffton was seeded first among the 12 teams and were voted a first round bye. The Lady Pirates (12-2) will host the winner between eighth seed Cory-Rawson (4-10-1) and 10th seed Ashland Crestview (2-10-1) in round two Thursday, October 20 at 5 p.m.

Toledo Edison (9-4-1) is the fourth seed and if form holds, would face Bluffton in the district semifinals at 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 25 on Steinmetz Field. Mansfield Christian (7-6-2) is seeded fifth and would likely face Edison in the second round.

The district finals at Steinmetz Field are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29.
