AHS girls basketball bests Perry by 10

Courtney Sumner poured in a season-high 26 points

The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team defeated Perry 56-46 in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon, December 3.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-3 overall with the win. The Commodore girls fell to 2-2 with the defeat.

"We had a great team win and made plays when we needed to," noted first-year Ada head coach Zach Ricker. "The girls did a great job making adjustments and executing what we asked them to do." 

Senior guard Courtney Sumner poured in a season-high 26 points to pace the victors. Junior backcourt mate Olivia Burkhart contributed 11 of her 13 points in the second half.

Ada led 16-12 after the first period as Sumner buried four triples. "She shot the ball well early," said Ricker. Perry then went to a box and one defense on Sumner after the 12-point first period outburst.

Ada extended the margin slightly to 30-25 at halftime as Sumner scored six more points, and freshman Anna Conley added two baskets. 

The Bulldogs held a 46-40 lead going to the final stanza. Burkhart tallied seven key points in the third period.

Ada won the final period 10-6 as they canned six of eight foul shots. Mariah King added six points for the Bulldogs.

Mary Hoersten led Perry with 12 points. Khalia Luster netted 10 markers, while Miauni Hall added nine.

The Lady Bulldogs sank 19 field goals, hitting 13 two-pointers and six shots from three-point territory. The Bulldogs converted 12 of 17 foul shots (71 percent).

The Perry girls canned 18 field goals, including 16 two-pointers and two treys. The Commodores converted just eight of 18 free throw attempts (44 percent). 

Ada also won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 17-8.

Ada visits struggling Riverdale (1-4) next Tuesday, December 6. The Bulldogs then host Columbus Grove (2-2, 0-1 NWC) Thursday, December 8 in a league encounter.
