AHS boys basketball loss at New Knoxville
By Cort Reynolds
The visiting Ada High school boys basketball team got outscored 24-14 in the fourth period and lost 66-56 at New Knoxville in a makeup contest Tuesday night, January 24.
The Bulldogs trailed 16-15 after the first period, but rallied to lead 27-23 at halftime. New Knoxville tied it 42-42 after three quarters with a 19-15 third stanza.
Ada fell to 6-8 after the defeat, while New Knoxville improved to 2-13 with the victory.
The non-conference game was originally postponed due to the Arctic cold snap back on December 23.
"The tougher team won," said second-year Ada head coach Vince Halliday. "They made the plays and made shots.
"We couldn't get stops, never really got in a rhythm on either end of the floor," he continued. "Lots of fouls called, just a tough night...no flow."
New Knoxville outscored Ada 23-8 at the charity stripe.
Senior Carter Conley led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Classmate Spencer Wall contributed 18 markers and two treys. Senior Ethan Murphy added a dozen points.
Ranger junior guard Andrew Leffel led New Knoxville with 20 points. Jay Schroeder chipped in with 13 markers.
Ada canned 18 two-point goals and four treys. The Bulldogs converted eight of 17 shots from the charity stripe (47 percent).
New Knoxville sank 11 deuces and seven triples. The Rangers also converted 23 of 30 attempts at the foul line (77 percent).
Ada won the junior varsity contest, 47-31.
