Ada High School sophomore Lily Baumgartner finished third in the 100 butterfly finals and fifth in the 100 backstroke finals at the OHSAA Division II state meet in Canton’s C.T. Branin Natatorium on Friday night, February 24.
Baumgartner completed the 100 butterfly in 55.87, bettering her state preliminary heat time of Thursday night by .79.
Junior Lilly Mehok of Hathaway Brown won the 100 fly state title. Bexley sophomore Millie Evans touched second, followed by Baumgartner.
Baumgartner also finished fifth in the 100 backstroke finals Friday night. She touched the wall in 57.27, an .04 improvement over her preliminary heat time which seeded her fifth.
“Lily did amazing,” said AHS head coach Ashley Robey. “I really just wanted her to go out there and have fun and enjoy the experience.
“She did exactly that and dropped time while getting a personal record in the backstroke,” she continued. “She is an outstanding athlete and person. She gives her best every time she swims, and I couldn’t be happier for her.
“I am very proud of all her and Carlie (Oldfield’s) accomplishments this season. They truly deserve it,” she added.
Port Clinton junior Kami Periat (54.32) and Mehok (55.64) finished 1-2 in the 100 backstroke finals and prelims.
Ada senior Carlie Oldfield also made it to the state meet in the 50 freestyle, finishing 26th.
