Blueberry fundraiser underway - order by June 23

"One berry, two berry, pick me a Blueberry!" So begins Jamberry by Bruce Degen. Summer is the perfect time to enjoy blueberries and the Ada Music Boosters are ready to provide them.

The Boosters are holding a blueberry sale to benefit the  2017-18 school year music programs.

You will be purchasing 10 pounds of ultra-fresh, hand-picked New Jersey blueberries.The blueberries are delicious and they freeze well. These blueberries are grown by Stoney Creek Blueberries in Hammonton, N.J.

Ada Public Library has an ambitious summer reading program planned. The kick-off is Saturday, June 3. Watch the Icon for details.

The Ada Police Department, in conjunction with the Ada Community Re-Store's summer lunch program, will conduct the S.A.F.E.R. Academy for youth in June at the Ada War Memorial Park.

The Academy takes place at the park from Monday through Friday, June 19-23 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Academy is held prior to the ReStore Lunch Program.

Ada Police Department and the K-9 team, BCI Crime Scene Unit, Ada/Liberty Fire and EMS, the Lima/Allen County Bomb Squad, will make presentations.

Stratton Greenhouses open Memorial Day

Stratton Greenhouses, 9915 Lincoln Highway, Bluffton, will be open on Memorial Day from noon to 5 p.m.

All geraniums and mixed planters are 25 percent off. Stratton Greenhouses is also open Sundays in May from noon to 5 p.m.

Seniors Lucas Shumate and Kase Schalois and junior Matt Molinaro are set to compete in the 2017 NCAA Div. III National Championships this weekend in Geneva, Ohio.

Shumate makes his second appearance at the national meet during the 2017 season. The senior competed at the indoor meet in the weight throw for the Polar Bears. Shumate will represent Northern in the hammer throw. The senior qualified for the event with a toss of 184' 8" at the Dr. Keeler Invitational and currently ranks 19th nationally in the event.  He will compete in the prelims of the event at 1:30 pm on Saturday May, 27.

ONU sophomore Jake Abbot (Kenton) has been named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for men's tennis in 2017.

The sophomore pharmacy major earned the honor for the first time in his career.

Abbot was tied for second on the team with 12 singles victories and also posted double digit victories in doubles.

The Polar Bears went 11-11 in 2017 under first year head coach Mike Bonnell.
