On April 29, Ada's third graders got a free tree seedling and tree planting tutorial from the Village of Ada. The mayor, village employees, and members of the tree commission met with students on the south patio to celebrate Arbor Day. The village came prepared with white swamp oak seedlings for the students to plant and the students came prepared with newly-learned information and drawings of trees.
The occasion was both fun and formal. Mayor Dave Retterer read the following proclamation #2022-01:
The Ada High School tennis team decisively beat visiting Van Wert 4-1 Thursday evening, April 28, at the park courts.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-4 with their third win in four matches. VW fell to 2-5 with the defeat.
Athletic Ada junior Brendan Jameson polished off his VW opponent quickly in two sets at second singles.
Bulldog junior Amelia Alexander gutted out a tough three-set win at third singles with hustle and mostly mistake-free groundstrokes in the match of the day. The over two-hour bout featured several long rallies and well-contested points.
The visiting Ada baseball team lost 12-2 to Crestview in a Northwest Conference matchup in Convoy on Thursday evening, April 28.
Ada fell to 5-9 overall and 0-5 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, Crestview improved to 9-3 and 5-1 in NWC play with the win.
Crestview plated eight big runs in the bottom of the first inning to build a big early lead. The Knights stretched the margin to 11-1 after three frames.
Ada scored once in the fourth to slice the deficit to 11-2, but the Knights matched it in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the 10-run rule.
Note: because Prom is on a Friday night this year, all K-12 students have at early release at 1:00 p.m.
Ada High School seniors voted for their 2021-2022 Senior Prom Court with the results below. The Icon took the attached photos on the brisk Wednesday morning prior to Prom, with the young men of the court serving as a wind break for the young women.
