Ada 9th at league meet

The Ada High School golf team finished ninth in the annual Northwest Conference championship tournament held Thursday, September 21, at the Delphos Country Club.

Delphos Jefferson won the tournament title with 348 strokes. Allen East tied Leipsic for second at 353, but AE won the overall NWC title due to their combined regular season crown (12-4) and championship meet showing.

Crestview finished fourth at 356, followed by a bunched-up field. Spencerville was fifth at 361, followed by Columbus Grove (365), Lincolnview (367) and Bluffton (388).

The Bulldogs totaled 419 strokes to finish ninth.

Ada senior Jack Baumgartner registered a personal-best 18-hole tournament round of 46-44=90 to finish 11th in the 53-player field. He also earned second team all-league honors with his NWC effort.

Crestview’s Matthew Dealy shot an 18-hole round of 74 to earn league Player of the Year honors. He nosed out defending league champion Brevin Brandt of Leipsic by two strokes to win tournament medalist honors.

AE’s Levi Clum tied for third medalist at 39-38=77 with Jefferson’s Isaac Gallmeier to make first team All-NWC. Mustang Donovan Kennedy tied for sixth by carding a 43-41=84.

Junior Ethan Lawrence finished second for Ada with a round of 50-48=98.

Freshman Brody Rister carded a 59-49=108. Freshman Lawson Klingler was the fourth Ada scorer with a 62-60=122 finish.

Bulldog sophomore Sam Crawford added a score of 62-69=131.

AE and Leipsic tied for the NWC regular season title at 12-4. Lincolnview and Delphos Jefferson tied for third at 10-6, followed by Columbus Grove and Crestview in fifth at 9-7.

Bluffton came in seventh at 6-10, followed by Spencerville (4-12) and Ada (0-16).

Ada plays in the 11-team Div. III sectional tournament Thursday morning, September 28 at Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Arlington.

The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the district tournament at Stone Ridge Golf Course Thursday, October 5.
