Bulldog boys basketball loses grudge match to USV

McGUFFEY__The visiting Ada High School boys basketball team fell behind early and lost 73-46 to backyard foe Upper Scioto Valley in their traditional rivalry contest Saturday night, January 13, at Alumni Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs dropped to 2-10 with the non-conference defeat. USV improved to 6-5 after the grudge match win.
The Rams led 18-8 after the first period, but spunky Ada inched within 32-23 at halftime.
A 17-10 USV third period stretched their lead to 49-33. The Rams then poured it on with a 24-13 fourth quarter to win by 27.
“We couldn’t stop them all night,” lamented Ada third-year head coach Vince Halliday. “It was a very poor showing from the ‘Dogs, certainly disappointing.”
Freshman point guard Kolton Dysert led Ada with 15 points and three triples. Sophomore post Slade Gossman contributed a dozen markers. Junior defensive ace Levi Green scored a season-best six points.
“Kolton bounced back, that was good to see,” agreed Halliday.
Ram Maddox Underwood led the victors with 18 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Alex Sanders topped USV with 19 points and six assists.
Beau Sanders contributed a dozen points. Andrew Kindle added 11 markers behind three treys.
The Bulldogs connected on 13 of 31 two-point goals (42 percent), and drained four of 17 triples (24 percent).
Overall, the Bulldogs canned 17 of their 48 field attempts (35 percent).
Ada converted just eight of 17 shots from the charity stripe (47 percent).
Upper connected on 18 of 37 two-pointers and drilled six of 13 treys (46 percent). The Rams converted 19 of 24 from the free throw line (79 percent).
Overall from the floor, USV sank 24 of 50 shots (48 percent). The Rams pulled down 30 rebounds.
Ada committed 11 turnovers, while USV was guilty of seven miscues.
The Bulldogs easily won the JV game to up the Ada reserve record to 8-4.
Ada (0-3 NWC) visits Delphos Jefferson (1-9, 0-2 NWC) next Friday, January 19.
The Bulldogs then host county foe Hardn Northern (2-7) Saturday, Jan. 20.
USV (3-0 NWCC) hosts Arlington (6-4) Jan. 20.
