Bulldog girls basketball felled by Redskins

ARCADIA__The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team lost 42-25 to Arcadia in a low-scoring non-conference contest Saturday afternoon, January 6.
The Redskin girls led the Bulldogs 12-6 after the first quarter, but Ada stayed within 24-17 at halftime.
Arcadia limited the purple and gold to just three baskets and eight points in the second half. The Redskins won the final two periods by identical 9-4 scores to gradually pull away.
The Bulldogs dropped to 4-8 overall with the defeat. The Redskin girls improved to 10-1 with the victory.
“We played hard, we just struggled making shots and making free throws,” said Ada head coach Zach Ricker. “Foul trouble hurt some as did our depth.
“We wore down in the second half,” he added. Ada was playing its third game in five days.
The Bulldogs were led by senior Autumn Andreasen, who scored nine points. Bulldog senior guard Olivia Burkhart tallied eight points.
Junior guard Lexi Poling and senior southpaw Mariah King each scored four points.
Colman led the Redskins with 12 points, and Bostic added 10.
The Ada girls connected on 10 two-point goals but made no three-pointers. The Bulldogs converted just five of their 16 free throws (31 percent).
Arcadia canned 12 two-point field goals and splashed five shots from beyond the arc. The hosts converted three of four charity stripe tries (75 percent).
Ada hosts struggling Lima Central Catholic (2-9) in a non-league bout Tuesday, January 9. The Bulldog girls resume NWC play Thursday, Jan. 11 at talented backyard league rival Allen East (8-2, 0-2 NWC).
AE lost 57-41 at NWC co-leader Delphos Jefferson (9-1, 3-0 NWC) last Thursday, so both their losses have been in conference play.
The Mustang girls are led by senior standout wing Savana Brooks and speedy junior lead guard Rilynn Jones.
