ONU wrestlers Reed, Hendricks, Layman earn bids to nationals

ADA__No. 12-ranked Ohio Northern had three qualify for the national championships in their respective weight classes to lead Ohio Northern at the 2024 NCAA Division III Central Regional Wrestling Championships on Saturday, March 2.
The Basics
Records: #12 Ohio Northern (17-7) finished third of 19 teams with 138.5 points.
Venue: ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse - Ada, Ohio.
Three Polar Bear wrestlers finished in the top three of their respexctive weight classes and earned bids to compete at the NCAA III Championships March 15-16 at LaCrosse, Wis.
#6 Baldwin Wallace won the team title with 193 points, #14 Wabash (Ind.) was second with 155 points and Adrian (Mich.) was fourth with 117.5 points.
ONU Individuals
Junior All-American and No. 1-ranked Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) won the title at 141 pounds with a 4-0 record. Reed is now 26-0 on the year heading into the NCAA Championships.
Junior Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greenview) won the 165-pound title as the No. 4 seed with a 5-0 record. Hendricks is now 27-8 on the year entering the nationals.
Junior Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) is ONU's third NCAA Championships qualifier, finishing second at 184 pounds as the No. 3 seed at 184 pounds. He went 3-1 and will take a 34-10 with him to LaCrosse.
Junior Jayden Jones (Ashland) placed fourth as the No. 3 seed at 157 pounds. He finished then weekend 3-2 and ends his season with a 23-14 record.
Junior Dylan Le (Dublin/Scioto) placed fifth at 133 pounds as the No. 3 seed. He finished with a 3-2 record and is now 29-15.
Junior Colin Mellott (Wapakoneta) was the No. 5 seed at 125 pounds and placed fifth in the weight class with a 4-2 mark. Mellott ends his season with a 32-16 record.
Senior Jadon Brownlee (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) posted a 4-2 record as the No. 7 seed at Heavyweight to place fifth in his weight class. He will finish 26-21 on the season.
Junior Adam Myers (Springfield/STEM Academy) placed seventh at 174 pounds as the No. 5 seed. He was 4-2 on the weekend and ended the year at 29-13.
Sophomore Colton Spurgeon (Mount Vernon) went 2-2 at 149 and ends his season with a 23-17 record.
Freshman Cole Williams (Cumming, Ga./South Forsyth) went 0-2 as the No. 7 seed at 197. He ends his season with a 20-13 record.
Notables
Reed is making his third NCAA III Championships appearance. He placed third in both his freshman and sophomore seasons, earning All-America honors both years.
Reed won his second consecutive Regionals crown after placing second as a freshman in 2022.
Hendricks will be making his first NCAA Championships appearance after finishing seventh at the 2023 Regionals.
Layman will making his second NCAA Championships appearance, as he finished secoind at the Regionals in 2023.
Ohio Northern has now posted four consecutive top-5 finishes at the Regional Championships.
