Spartans shut out Bulldog baseball, March 27

Bulldogs host USV for an 11 a.m. twinbill on Saturday.

ADA__The young Ada High School baseball team lost 15-0 to visiting Lima Senior on a 39-degree Wednesday evening, March 27, at War Memorial Park in a run-rule shortened contest.

The Bulldogs fell to 0-2 after the five-inning loss, while the Spartans are 1-0 after the win.

LS scored seven runs in the top of the first inning to seize immediate control. The Spartans added four runs in the second frame, and pushed four more runs across the plate in the fourth.

Bulldog junior shortstop Levi Green collected the lone Ada hit with a single.

Ada junior first baseman Max Puerto walked twice and stole a base.

Spartan senior southpaw Brandon Griffith earned the pitching win with four innings of one-hit shutout pitching. He struck out five Bulldogs and walked two. 

Spartan sophomore first baseman Blake Hahn drove in three runs with two hits and scored twice. Second sacker Clay Jordan knocked in four runs. LS soph Yahir Brito-Diaz collected one RBI on two hits. 

Ada freshman Blake Zoladz started on the mound and gave up three earned runs while whiffing two Spartans. 

Freshman southpaw Tyler Stauffer relieved and allowed four runs with one strikeout. Wes Mowery pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for Ada. Ethan Lawrence hurled one inning of scoreless relief in the top of the fifth frame.

The Spartans out-hit the Bulldogs, 11-1. The visitors capitalized on four Ada errors and seven walks.

The Bulldogs left two runners on base, while LS stranded nine.

Ada visits non-league BVC foe Cory-Rawson (0-0) Thursday. The Bulldogs host backyard rival USV (1-0) Saturday for a twinbill at 11 a.m.
