Ada council met on August 5 on the second floor of the Ada Municipal Building, 114 W. Buckeye, with live viewing available online via Zoom. (Next meeting link) The meeting was conducted by Mayor David Retterer. Opening businesses included the paying of bills listed in the meeting packet.

The Ada Bulldog volleyball team scrimmaged Ridgemont and Kenton on August 6, previewing the start of their 2025-2026 academic year season. Stay tuned for more Bulldog sports photos by Mark Andreasen. See https://www.ada.k12.oh.us/events for a calendar of school events including athletics.

Hardin County — The final program of the Hardin County Master Gardener Volunteers Summer Program Series is set to take place on Tuesday, August 19. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the topic has been changed to Companion Planting which will be presented by Hardin County Master Gardener Volunteer, Christine Heilman. Companion planting is a gardening technique where plants that mutually benefit one another are planted together rather than separately in traditional garden planting.

On April 28, 1978, Steve Martin released King Tut on his album A Wild and Crazy Guy. The song was previewed on Saturday Night Live (SNL) on April 22nd of the same year. The song hit number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was great advertising for the Tutankhamun Treasures exhibit touring in 7 U.S. cities at the time.

Steve Martin is a very talented songwriter and musician. He continues to do a bluegrass arrangement of King Tut with his band the Steep Canyon Rangers. Steve Martin still goes out on comedy and musical tours. He and Martin Short are coming to Indianapolis, Indiana in October of 2025.

A tour of Ada’s Wilson Football (and basketball) factory, 517 E. Highland, with Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel hits just a little differently than other tours. On a day filled with stops around the state including meetings with OSU-Lima, UNOH, Rhodes State College and Ohio Northern University, he also toured the new manufacturing facility that was opened in June 2024.

FINDLAY – The Ada High School boys golf team competed in the first of three Blanchard Valley Conference tournaments on Monday, August 4 at the Findlay Country Club.

The Bulldog linksters finished tied for eighth with McComb at the day-long, 10-team event, which was won by Van Buren with 313 strokes.

Monday was the first of three tournaments which will combine to determine the 2025 BVC boys golf champion. A mid-season tournament will be held Aug. 18 at Hidden Creek Golf Club, with the BVC finale on Sept. 19 at Kalida’s Moose Landing.
