Bulldog baseball loss to Arcadia
By Cort Reynolds
ADA __ The Ada High School baseball team lost 8-2 to visiting Arcadia in a non-league game Friday evening, April 26.
The defeat dropped the Bulldog record to 0-10. The Redskins improved to 8-6 after the win.
“The kids played hard,” said Ada second-year head coach Toby Smith. “Just too many mistakes and not enough quality at-bats to get enough runs to win.”
The game was tied 2-2 after a busy first inning.
Ada junior shortstop Levi Green singled, stole a base and scored the first Bulldog run. Freshman catcher Andrew Allen was hit by a pitch and also scored.
Pitcher Mason Wibley and freshman third baseman Blake Zoladz each collected a run batted in.
Neither team scored again until the fourth frame. The Redskins doubled their lead with two scores in the top of the fourth.
Arcadia tacked on four big runs in the top of the sixth to build a commanding six-run lead.
Redskin sophomore Isaac Stoner came on in relief during the first inning and hurled a three-hitter over seven innings to get the win. He struck out eight and walked two.
Arcadia freshman starting hurler Jacoby Ellis gave up two runs and a walk in the first inning without retiring a Bulldog batter. But Stoner relieved and shut out Ada the rest of the way.
Arcadia out-hit Ada, 8-3. The Redskin defense committed one error, while the Bulldogs made no miscues.
Kaine Fisher and Brody Rister added singles for the Bulldogs.
Wibley pitched the first 5 1/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs. He struck out one and walked three and gave up seven hits.
Rister relieved in the sixth and pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of shutout ball. He allowed a hit and a walk, and struck out one.
Arcadia’s Colin Nusser doubled and scored two runs. Adam Emerich crossed home three times. Ellis hit a triple, singled and drove in a pair of runs. Owen Rader contributed two singles, a run and one RBI.
Redskin Zach Stewart doubled in a run and scored once.
Arcadia left five runners on base, while Ada stranded four.
The Bulldogs (0-4 NWC) visit league co-leader Crestview (10-1, 5-0 NWC) Monday, April 29. The Knights beat Spencerville 7-0 Friday night.
