Bulldog baseball shut out at W-G

WAYNESFIELD __ The visiting Ada High School baseball team lost 10-0 at Waynesfield-Goshen in a six-inning non-league bout Tuesday evening, May 7.
W-G plated seven late runs to break open a close game and win.
The Bulldogs fell to 2-13 overall after the defeat. Waynesfield evened its record at 8-8 after winning its eighth game in their last nine outings.
The Tigers out-hit Ada, 13-1.
“We did not play good enough defense against a good pitcher to give us a chance to win,” said Bulldog second-year head coach Toby Smith.
Waynesfield led 1-0 after the first inning and extended it to 3-0 after three frames. The Tigers stretched the lead to five with two runs in the fifth.
The hosts then plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.
Freshman catcher Andrew Allen singled for the lone Ada hit. He also walked and stole a base.
Tiger winning hurler Landin DeWitt struck out 12 and allowed just one hit in pitching a shutout.
“Landin pitched another really good game for us,” said W-G second-year head coach Troy Spencer. “We really hit the ball well. The second half of our season has gone well.”
Center fielder Dalton Jordan hit three singles and scored two runs for W-G.
DeWitt, shortstop Garett Stump, left fielder Layden Porter and first baseman Jay Carter each knocked in two runs on two hits apiece. DeWitt also stole three bases.
Catcher Jace Kaufman contributed a double, a single and two runs. Third baseman Troy Spencer drew three walks.
Bulldog sophomore Mason Wibley pitched five innings, giving up 13 hits and seven earned runs. He struck out five and walked three.
Ada committed three errors, while W-G was guilty of one miscue. The Tigers swiped seven bases.
The Bulldogs left three runners on base, while W-G stranded seven.
Ada (0-6 NWC) is slated to play at league foe Columbus Grove (10-11, 3-4 NWC) Wednesday.
Seeded 11th, Ada plays at fifth seed Pandora-Gilboa (7-12) in Div. IV sectional semifinal action Tuesday, May 14. The winner advances to play at second seed Hardin Northern (13-6) Thursday, May 16.
Riverdale (18-5) is the top seed in the Findlay sectional/district.
Ada plays a makeup league game Saturday morning at Lincolnview (13-6, 5-0 NWC).
