At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, the Alger Fire Department responded to a call for service just outside of the village on Township Rd. 92.
The fire destroyed a home and contents belonging to Steve and Angela Decker. The family was was not at home at the time of the fire. Animals belonging to the family were killed in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Alger Fire Chief Tony Watts shared that brisk winds made it difficult to fight the fire but that nearby outbuildings and a camper were saved.
Mutual aid was provided by Ada, Harrod, Lafayette and McGuffey fire departments.
The Alger Public Library, 100 W. Wagner St., has a canister at the circulation desk to collect donations for the Decker family. There is also an Amazon.com wish list posted on the 45810 News & Info Facebook Group.
