Bulldog boys basketball stymies Marion Elgin
By Cort Reynolds
MARION – The visiting Ada High School boys basketball team stymied non-league foe Marion Elgin 56-25 Saturday, December 28, to capture their sixth straight victory.
It was the second game in as many nights where the Bulldog defense held its opponent to just 25 points.
Ada raced to a 22-6 lead after the first period and never was threatened. The Bulldogs held a 30-12 margin at halftime, and stretched the margin to 47-17 after three stanzas following a 17-5 third quarter.
Ada also won the fourth quarter, 9-8.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-2 overall with the road win. Elgin fell to 2-6 after the home loss.
“We guarded pretty well,” said veteran Ada head coach Chris Sautter. “The kids are working hard at taking away the strength of the person they are guarding.
“Plus we have been rebounding pretty well, and limiting teams to one shot,” he added.
Ada has played eight of its first 10 games on the road.
“We jumped on them early,” said Sautter. “We got up 11-2 and never looked back.”
Bulldog junior Zack Zimmerman again led the scoring parade with 14 points. Junior Kayleb Hickman netted 11 markers.
Sophomore guard Carson Conley tallied eight points, and junior Gavin Oldfield added seven. Junior Slade Gossman scored six points.
Lust led the Comets with a meager seven points.
Ada connected on 21 two-point goals and drained three triples. The Bulldogs converted five free throws.
Elgin canned just 10 two-pointers and splashed no trifectas. The Comets also sank five foul shots.
Ada improved to 7-1 on the road this season with the lopsided win.
The Bulldogs visit former NWC foe Lincolnview (2-5) Monday, December 30.
