Can you tell from the Icons that Ada and Bluffton are located amidst the lush farmland of Northwest Ohio? On my editor's wish list is a column that helps connect village residents with the surrounding agricultural acres.
Here's your invitation: provide a list of agricultural topics that you, as village residents or as nearby farmers, wish were more widely understood. I'll get the party started with a few topics, and you are invited to add others. One poll will be open to Ada Icon and Bluffton Icon readers.
HARROD__The Ada High School boys golf team swept a quadrangular match at Colonial Golfers Club on Monday, August 24.
The Bulldog linksters won the match with a low score of 182 strokes. Arlington ended up 10 shots back in second at 192.
Pandora-Gilboa finished a distant third (220), followed by Lima Senior (245).
With the sweep, the Bulldogs improved to 30-3 on the season.
Ada senior Brody Rister was match medalist after firing a solid nine-hole round of 39. Sophomore teammate Arden Shook tied for second place with Arlington’s Deuce Davis at 45.
Carolyn Sue (Ungericht) Corle, 95, of Van Wert, died on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Vancrest of Van Wert.
She was born on June 18, 1931, in Connersville, Indiana, to Frank and Eva Ungericht, who preceded her in death. On June 28, 1951, she married Jack Edward Corle, who also preceded her in death.
She retired from Ohio Northern University, where she served as Director of Off-Campus Housing. She had formerly worked for the Hamilton County School District and had been a doctor's assistant in Ansonia, Ohio.
MEDIA RELEASE__This year’s Conservation Contest registration is now open for ages 8-19 that are in 4-H or FFA with a limit of one entry per participant.
The contest will be held on September 8 at the Hardin County Fairgrounds Community Building. Check in will be from 10:00-10:30 a.m. with the contest beginning at 10:30 a.m.
There will be special consideration for those showing livestock that day. Participants will be judged in three classes based upon age.
MEDIA RELEASE__Napoleon Road between Sandusky Road and State Route 81 will be closed to through traffic on Thursday, August 27 from 7:30 a.m. to Friday, August 28 at 2:00 p.m. for crossover work.
Napoleon Road will be available to residential traffic only - no through traffic. Please see the included map for the approximate location of road-cutting work.
This closure provides no through access for emergency vehicles. Please find an alternate route.
