Ada wrestlers 15th at Marion Pleasant Invite; Simon 2nd at 215

MARION – The Ada High School wrestling team competed at the rugged two-day Marion Pleasant Sally George Invitational tournament Friday and Saturday, January 14-25.
The Bulldogs finished 15th out of 21 teams with 50 points. Mechanicsburg edged Liberty Center 176-174 to win the team crown. Westland finished third with 166 points.
Ada senior Landon Simon finished second in the 215 lbs. weight class with a 3-1 record to post the top Bulldog showing. Seeded third, he had a first round bye and then won his initial match by pin in just 64 seconds.
In the 215 quarterfinals, Simon again captured a pin win in 2:28. In the semifinals, he recorded another pin at 4:20 to advance to the championship bout.
Senior Chase Payne of London then pinned Simon in the title round in 2:39.
Ada junior Silas Riblet advanced to the semifinals of the 120 lbs. class on Friday with two pins. He was pinned in the semis and dropped into the consolation bracket, where he lost his first match to fall to the fifth-place bout.
Riblet then lost 14-0 by technical fall to end up 2-3 and sixth.
Sophomore Layne Simon won his first match by pin at 165 lbs. in 54 seconds, then lost to Blevins of Kenton by pin. In the consolation bracket, he lost an 11-8 decision in overtime to be eliminated.
Senior Liam Vieira was seeded sixth in the 144 lbs. bracket, but lost his first round match by pin to fall into the consolation bracket. He won his first match there by pin in 4:1, but then fell via pin in 97 seconds to be eliminated.
Bulldog sophomore heavyweight Easton Lane triumphed in his first match in 4:35 by pin. He then lost by pin to drop into the consolation bracket. Lane won his first bout there in 70 seconds via pin, but lost the ensuing match by pin to be ousted with a 2-2 mark at the event.
The Bulldogs host the Ada Invitational Saturday, February 1 at 10 a.m.
Ada visits local rival Bluffton Wednesday, Feb. 5.
The Blanchard Valley Conference championships are at Van Buren Feb. 15.
