By Cort Reynolds
FINDLAY – Ada sophomore wrestler Cheznie Vieira finished third in the girls 120 lbs. class at the Findlay Northwest sectional tournament on Friday, February 21.
She qualified for the district event March 2 at Findlay with a 22-13 record. A top four sectional finish earns a wrestler district qualification.
As a three seed in her quarter of the 16-wrestler bracket at districts, she will face second seed junior Addilyn Delarber of Defiance Tinora in the first round of the double elimination event.
Vieira won her first sectional match in the eight-wrestler bracket by pin in just 95 seconds.
In the semifinal round, she lost by a 4-1 decision to fall into the consolation bracket. In that bracket, she won her semifinal bout 12-8 to advance to the third-place match.
Vieira then defeated Patrick Henry junior Trinity Johnson by pin at 2:43 to capture third place and end up 3-1 at the tourney.
The girls state tournament will be held at the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University Friday, March 7 and Sunday, March 9.
The top four finishers from each of the four districts advance to the state tournament.
