DELPHOS__The visiting Ada High School baseball team lost 6-4 to ex-league rival Delphos Jefferson on a wind-swept Tuesday evening, April 29.

The Bulldogs tallied a run in the top of the first, but the Wildcats countered with two scores in the home half of the opening frame.

Both teams scored three times in the second as Ada went back on top briefly 4-2. But DJ wrested the advantage back for good 5-4 after two seesaw innings.

The Wildcats tacked on an insurance run in the fifth to lead 6-4, and held the Bulldogs scoreless over the final five frames.

“We made too many mistakes to win,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “We have to minimize our self-inflicted wounds.”

Ada dropped to 3-12 with the defeat. DJ improved to 2-13 after their second straight victory.

The Wildcats out-hit Ada 8-3, but the Bulldogs drew a whopping 10 walks.

However, Ada left 10 runners on base.

Bulldog sophomore catcher Andrew Allen singled, walked and scored a run. He also stole two bases.

Ada senior shortstop Levi Green singled, scored a run and swiped a bag.

Brody Rister and Blake Zoladz each walked twice, and Zoladz scored once.

Second baseman Wes Mowery singled, walked once, stole a base and scored a run. Senior center fielder Kaine Fisher stole base and walked once.

Mason Wibley started and pitched 4.1 innings, scattering seven hits. He allowed five earned runs and walked two, while striking out five Wildcats.

The Bulldogs committed four errors, while DJ made three misplays. The Wildcats left nine runners on base.
