Bulldog baseball falls to Spencerville

SPENCERVILLE __ The visiting Ada High School baseball team lost 10-1 at former Northwest Conference foe Spencerville on a chilly Thursday evening, April 10.
The Bearcats broke open a close 3-1 game with seven runs in the sixth inning to seal the verdict.
Ada’s overall record dropped to 2-4 after the loss. The hosts improved to 2-3 with the victory.
The Bulldogs led 1-0 after the first inning. Senior leadoff hitter Levi Green singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Brody Rister.
The Bearcats took the lead with three runs in the home third.
Catcher Andrew Allen and first baseman Mason Wibley collected the other Ada hits, both singles. Blake Zoladz drew a walk and swiped a base.
Spencerville outhit Ada 13-4, including three doubles. The Bearcats stole nine bases. The hosts left seven runners on base, while Ada stranded five.
Bulldog starting hurler Rister pitched 5 1/3 innings, scattering nine hits. He allowed three earned runs and walked two with four strikeouts.
Tyler Stauffer relieved and got the last two outs. He gave up four hits and four earned runs, plus two walks.
Spencerville hurler Jude Stemen pitched seven innings of four-hit baseball to get the win. He struck out 11 Bulldogs, walked one and allowed just one earned run.
Stemen also doubled, hit a single, walked and scored a run to aid his own cause. Bearcat right fielder Conner Heistan contributed two hits and a pair of RBI.
Ada committed four errors that led to three unearned runs. The Bearcats made two miscues.
On Wednesday, Ada was tied in extra innings at McComb when the game was suspended due to darkness.
The Bulldogs play at North Baltimore (0-2) Saturday.
