Bulldog baseball loss vs. Allen East
By Cort Reynolds
HARROD – The Ada High School baseball team lost 8-1 at backyard former league rival Allen East on an unseasonably warm Thursday evening, April 24.
The game was slated to be played at Ada but was moved to Allen East.
The Mustangs broke up a scoreless game with a run in the fourth inning. They pushed four runs across the plate in the fifth frame to construct a 5-0 lead.
The Mustangs added three runs in the sixth, while the Bulldogs plated their lone run.
“Down 4-1 in the fifth we made two errors that we could not overcome, and the game got loose,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “We have to find a way to avoid those routine-play mistakes.
“When we do, we will be able to win games against quality opponents,” he added.
Ada dropped to 3-10 with the defeat. AE improved to 7-4 after the victory.
The Mustangs out-hit Ada 6-2, and drew four walks. The Bulldogs also coaxed four walks.
Bulldog sophomore catcher Andrew Allen tripled, walked and scored the lone Ada run. Senior center fielder Kaine Fisher singled for the other Ada hit.
Junior catcher Jackson Thompson hit a home run for the Mustangs in the fourth inning. Third baseman Travis Stanley drove in three runs on one hit and scored a run from the leadoff spot. First baseman Cam Cosart added two hits and two runs.
Levi Clum earned the pitching win with 3.1 innings of hitless baseball. He struck out three and walked three. Colt Snyder and Brady Brooks combined for 3.2 innings of relief. The duo walked three and whiffed five.
Wes Mowery started and took the pitching loss for Ada. He hurled 3.2 innings and allowed just one run on two hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Mason Wibley tossed 1.1 innings of relief, allowing three hits with one whiff and one walk. Brody Rister pitched an inning and gave up a hit and two walks with one whiff.
The Bulldogs committed five errors that led to seven unearned runs, while AE made one miscue. Ada stranded four runners, while the Mustangs left six men on base.
Ada (2-4 BVC) plays at league foe Riverdale (7-4, 3-1 BVC) Monday, April 28.
