LIMA – The Ada High School boys tennis team made a 5-0 sweep of Lima Senior on Wednesday, April 16, in their first road match.
Ada is now 2-1 on the young season.
“All five matches were over within 50 minutes,” said new Ada head coach Carter Bivens. “All were two-setters, with multiple courts winning 6-0.
“Everyone did extremely well,” he added. “We are on track with our goal to be the most improved team.”
Ada senior Nathan Williams cruised to victory in his first singles bout at Lima Senior 6-0, 6-0.
Bulldog junior Justin Bowden rolled to a second singles win by a 6-0, 6-4 count.
Ada sophomore Brandon Prater captured his third singles bout 6-1, 6-1.
Luke Archer and Lawson Klingler won convincingly 6-1, 6-0 at first doubles.
The Ada tandem of Mohamad Khalil and Sam Crawford also won easily at second doubles 6-0, 6-3.
Ada also fell 5-0 to visiting Marion Harding Monday in a makeup home match, which had been the scheduled season-opener.
MH won 10 of the 11 sets. Bowden lost at second singles in the decisive third set 6-1. Prater lost 6-0 and 7-6 in a second-set tiebreaker, 7-3.
“Tough match,” said Bivens of the loss. “Most singles matches went into multiple deuce games. Their mental game got to them. Doubles got hit pretty hard, but they fought well.”
Ada is slated to play at Bryan Saturday, and at Elida Monday.
