Bulldog baseball spanks Lima Senior

LIMA – The visiting Ada High School baseball team raced to a big early lead and went on to defeat Lima Senior 8-3 in a non-league contest Friday evening, May 23 at UNOH.
The Bulldogs led 2-0 after three innings, then plated six big runs in the fourth frame to build a commanding 8-0 cushion.
The Spartans cut into the lead with two runs in the fifth and one more score in the sixth, but could get no closer than five.
Ada improved to 6-17 with the victory. LS fell to 6-19 after the defeat.
“It was a great team win,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “We played well in all areas, and that was the main reason for the win.”
The purple and gold out-hit the Spartans, 10-7. The Bulldogs committed five errors, while LS made two miscues.
Ada sophomore catcher Andrew Allen knocked out three singles, scored three runs and drove in two runs. He also stole three bases.
Bulldog Mason Wibley also smacked three hits, knocked in three runs and scored once.
Senior center fielder Kaine Fisher stroked two singles, had one run batted in and scored a run.
Senior shortstop Levi Green singled and scored one run. Tyler Stauffer hit a single and scored a run.
Freshman right fielder Thad Smith drew two walks and was swiped a base.
Third baseman Blake Zoladz coaxed a walk. Connor McKean added a walk, a sacrifice bunt and a run.
Ada’s Wes Mowery pitched five innings of one-run relief to earn the win. He gave up three hits, one earned run and struck out one.
Zoladz finished the game by tossing two-thirds of an inning of hitless relief. He struck out one.
Brody Rister walked one and allowed two hits in two-thirds of an inning in relief.
Blake Hahn had two hits and one RBI for LS. Ethan Hughes singled twice and scored a run. Hughes also threw a hitless inning of relief.
Spartan Yahir Brito-Diaz pitched the first three innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits and two walks to suffer the loss. Cooper Twining allowed two earned runs and four hits over four frames. He struck out five and walked two Bulldogs.
Ada left four runners on base, while the Spartans stranded a dozen runners.
