HARROD__The improved Ada High School boys golf team won a close quadrangular meet at Colonial Hills Golf Club in Harrod over Waynesfield-Goshen, Fort Jennings and McComb on Thursday, August 6.
Ada tied W-G for first at 175 strokes apiece in regulation play. But the Bulldogs won the fifth-player tiebreaker as freshman Brooklyn Rister shot a 49 to clinch the match sweep.
Fort Jennings totaled 192 strokes, while McComb tallied 202.
The Bulldog linksters improved to 17-2 with the three wins. Ada was led by senior Brody Rister, who shot a nine-hole score of 40 to tie for third place overall in the field of 24 golfers.
The Texas-based Buc-ee's chain of travel centers has sued a Beavercreek, Ohio shop named Beaver's Mini Mart for a logo it says is too similar to its own cartoon creature. It echoes efforts by Apple computers to squelch other companies' use of fruit logos--even those with pears.
I'm disgusted with this heavy-handed approach by a multi-billion-dollar company toward a mom-and-pop shop that has been in business for two decades.
One of Ada's oldest traditions brings families, friends and neighbors to War Memorial Park on the second Saturday in August: the Farmers & Merchants Picnic. 2026 marks the 113th annual event, a day filled with entertainment, four-legged and diesel-powered competitions, good food, games and lots and lots of prizes.

MEDIA RELEASE__Ohio Northern University will hold children's auditions for its 31st year of The ONU Holiday Spectacular from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, in ONU's Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Auditions will be held for children ages 5 to 12.
Those auditioning should be ready to participate in a dance call with jazz and/or tap shoes. Please, no prepared dance or vocal solos.
Dates for this year's performances are November 19-21, 2026, at Ohio Northern University; and Dec. 4-6, 2026, at Lima's Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center.
The August 4 Ada council meeting was conducted by Mayor Dave Retterer with all council members present. The meeting included a continuation of discussion about pedestrian safety at Turner and West streets. Chief Alec Cooper reported that $2,000 was raised to support Ada's first National Night Out celebration on August 5. The council packet is here.
