James D. Burkett worked for Whirlpool
James D. Burkett, age 75, of Alger, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 26, 1949 in Kentucky to the late James and Mag (Van Hoose) Burkett. On April 24 1975 James married Michelle Osborn and she preceded him in death on September 16, 2023.
James is survived by his three daughters: Shanna (Dan) Bolin of Grove City, Tonya (Shane) Starr of Alger and Larissa (Todd) Harpel of Kenton; seven grandchildren: Austin (Chelsea) Howard, Justin (Lindsey) Howard, Troy Bolin, Laney (Brandon) Cochensparger, Allison Harpel, Kaitlyn (Rhiannon Hubbard) Bolin and Ryan Bolin; seven great grandchildren: Bryson, Leyton, Remington, Kayson, Jaxon, Gabriella and Luca; brother, Lester (Alma) Burkett; and brother-in-law, Esky Daniels.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Daniels.
James retired from Whirlpool. He coached basketball and volleyball at Upper Scioto Valley for many years. He was an avid OSU Buckeyes and Kentucky Wildcats fan. James loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family request casual attire or wear Kentucky Wildcats or Ohio State Buckeyes gear for visitation and services.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at the McGuffey Church of Christ, 203 Columbus Street, McGuffey, Ohio 45859 with David Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at McGuffey Church of Christ, 203 Columbus Street, McGuffey, Ohio 45859, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Universal Hospice, 921 Rush Avenue, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311 and/or McGuffey Church of Christ, 203 Columbus Street, McGuffey, Ohio 45859.
