He was born on September 22, 1958 in Lima, Ohio to the late Harold Cavinder and Barbara Neal. His stepmother, Sheila Cavinder survives at Indian Lake.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Dianne Cavinder, of Harrod, Ohio. He was a devoted husband who often said that loving Dianne was the greatest joy of his life. Also surviving are his children: Steven (Michelle) Ackerman of Lima and Tracy Park of LaFayette; five grandchildren: Brooke, Brian, Brittany, Tiffany, and Skyler; eight great grandchildren; two brothers: Richard (Melody) Cavinder and Rodney (Susan) Cavinder; three sisters: Rita (Fred) Stapleton, Kelly (Roy) Wilkins, and Fatina Cavinder Reese; and two nephews: Joey and Jim Ackerman.

John retired from ACF (Allen Co Fabrication) in Lima, Ohio, in 2024. He took great pride in his work but even more pride in his time spent building car models, helping others, and most of all—being a grandpa. His family will remember him for his humor, his generous spirit, and the way he always put others first.
John lived his life to the fullest, always lending a hand or offering support when it was needed. His heart was big, his love was steady, and his legacy will live on in all those who loved him.
It was his wish to be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later date.
