ADA – The Ada High School girls soccer team defeated visiting Delphos St. John’s 1-0 in a non-league match to commemorate Senior Night at War Memorial Stadium on Monday, September 8.

Ada seniors Alyssa Nau, Emma Lambdin, Jordyn Smith and Alex Gibson were recognized for their contributions before the game.

The Bulldog girls improved to 9-1 with the shutout victory.

The Blue Jays of the Western Ohio Soccer League fell to 2-5-1 after the loss.

“The game was a lot tighter than it should have been,” said Ada head coach Doug Dewese. “We had plenty of opportunities to convert goals, but we just were not taking quality shots.

“No power, slightly off or over frame or right at the keeper,” he continued. “We had the distraction of our Senior Night, so we were out of sorts from minute one.”

Senior Gibson scored the game’s lone goal in the first half unassisted.

Ada keeper Emily Gibson made nine saves in goal to record another clean sheet. The Bulldogs out-shot DSJ, 29-9.

The Bulldogs (0-1 NCOSA) hosts league foe Riverdale (1-3-2, 0-0-1 NCOSA) and speedy defending league Player of the Year Marissa Bonham Wednesday, Sept. 8 in a key conference game.

The Falcon match starts at 7 p.m. as the nightcap of a boys/girls doubleheader.

Ada then entertains defending Northwest Conference champion Columbus Grove (4-1-1) this Saturday at 10 a.m. in their battle of the Bulldogs.

“We can and should be better than we were tonight,” said Dewese. “I think once we get back into a normal game set-up without distractions and get everyone playing at potential, we should get back to our early-season form.

“We have to get there; the toughest part of our schedule is our next three games against Riverdale, Columbus Grove and Liberty-Benton,” Dewese warned.
