Obituary for Jean Anne Dearth

Jean Anne Dearth, age 80, of Ada, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Vancrest of Ada, surrounded by her family. 

She was born on July 23, 1945 in Kenton, Ohio to Harold F. “Hal” and Irma Jean (Crowe) Van Atta, who preceded her in death.  On December 20, 1975 Jean Anne married Gerald A. “Jerry” Dearth and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2020. 

Jean Anne is survived by her three daughters: Cinthya Anspach of Harrod, Tamara (Chip) Ulmes of Lima and Kari (Scott) Potter of Ada; step children: Michael (Dovie) Dearth of Arlington, Kerrie (Mark) Allen of Ada, Karla (Charles) Beagle of Arlington and Teresa Romick of Bluffton; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death are her brother, Sheridan “Danny” Van Atta; son-in-law, Robert “Sandy” Anspach; and a step granddaughter. 

Jean Anne’s mother and father owned Hal & Jean's Restaurant of Ada. She worked there as a waitress and was one of her favorite jobs. She helped run the 302 Carryout while under their ownership. Jean Anne also worked at Gardner Drug Store of Ada 20 years as a sales clerk. She was a former member of the Lioness Club and cooked for the Lions Club for many years. She loved to camp and travel with friends. She adored her grandchildren and her dogs. She was a member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church of Ada.  

Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada with Marty Clum officiating. It was her wish to be cremated following the service. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada. 

Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9th at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada.
