Soroptimist club attends regional fall conference
OCT 29 MEDIA RELEASE__Kenton/Hardin County Soroptimist International attended the Midwestern Region Fall Conference in Columbus on October 24-25 at El Dorado Gaming (Scioto Downs). Member clubs from Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio met with "DREAM BIG" as the conference theme.
Members met with old friends and new friends for a social hour. Clubs with fundraising projects shared their work and offered some of their projects for sale.
After dinner, they broke into four groups to explore the Mission: Possible, Recruit, Train, and Retain. Using the four pillars of Soroptimist, they shared what their clubs were doing for membership fundraising, programs and public awareness. Members were able to bring back many ideas to their clubs. They played a game of "Singo" using songs from the '60s-'90s. Afterwards, members explored Columbus or rested in the hotel to get ready for the next day.
There were 15 clubs in attendance. Governor Audrey Jarvey gave her message. Key awards were announced, followed by the Directors' messages.
Lve your dream is a major program worked on by each club. This program awards money to women who are raising children alone while going to college or a trade school. This award can help them gain valuable education to make their lives better, as well as help them raise children.
After lunch, officers were introduced: Governor, Audrey Jarvey, SI Fond du Lac; Governor-elect Ruth Waggoner, SI Kenton-Hardin Co; Secretary, Karen Kier, SI Kenton-Hardin County; District II Director, Laura Ferguson, SI Kenton-Hardin County; Secretary Priscilla Hutra, SI Monroe Co; District IV Director Alex Coon, SI Canton-Stark County; and Secretary Amy Hursey, SI Zanesville. A video presentation was shown to invite all to the Spring Conference to be held on April 23-26 in Columbus.
The Kenton Hardin County club brought home six baskets from the basket raffle. Those attending were Maylene Deckling, Hope Myers, Bev Bahr, Hannah Bergsted, Christine Shearer Fowler, Judy Sallee, Laura Ferguson, Karen Kier, Bonnie Haney and Shirley Green.
