Bulldog girls basketball opens league with loss to Leipsic

ADA__The Ada High School girls basketball team fell 53-40 to visiting Leipsic in the Blanchard Valley Conference opener on Tuesday, November 25.
Leipsic freshman Kya Brandt poured in a game-high 28 points to pace the victors. She consistently scored seven points in each of the four quarters.
“We started out slow and struggled with their pressure in the first half, but I felt like we showed some growth in the second half,” said Bulldog girls head coach Zach Ricker.
“We have some positives to take away from it,” he added.
Ada dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in league play with the home defeat. Leipsic starts out 1-0 and 1-0 in BVC action with the road win.
Bulldog senior Anna Conley poured in 17 points to lead the Bulldogs. Junior guard Kenley Poling tallied 10 markers and nailed both Ada triples.
Leipsic led 17-10 after the first period after Brandt drained a three-pointer and two deuces.
Bulldog freshman post Te’a Griffith scored five of her eight points in the opening stanza.
Brandt added two more conventional baskets and one triple in the second stanza as the Vikings built a 31-18 advantage at intermission.
Poling netted six points in the second quarter to help keep Ada within striking distance.
Conley scored 11 points in the second half as the teams played to a 22-22 tie. Brandt tallied 14 points after intermission to keep the host Bulldogs at bay.
Leipsic led 44-29 after three periods of play. Ada won the fourth quarter 11-9 behind six markers by Conley.
Brandt canned nine two-pointers and a pair of treys to go with four foul shots. Viking senior Peyton Schroeder added 10 points as Brandt outscored her Leipsic teammates, 28-25.
Ada canned 10 deuces, drilled two triples and sank 14 of 22 free throws (64 percent). Leipsic made 17 two-pointers, three trifectas and 10 of 17 free throws (59 percent).
