Bulldog girls basketball stymies Wildcats

VANLUE__The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team routed Vanlue 40-23 in a Blanchard Valley Conference contest on Thursday, December 4.
The Bulldog girls evened their records at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in BVC play with their first road win in two tries this season.
The Wildcats fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the BVC after the defeat.
“It was good for the girls to get back in the win column,” said Ada head coach Zach Ricker. “It is something to build off of going into Saturday.”
The Bulldogs led 14-7 after the first period as senior Anna Conley poured in eight early points.
Ada stretched their advantage to 22-10 at halftime after holding Vanlue to just three points in the second stanza.
The Bulldogs were never threatened as they outscored the Wildcats 18-13 in the second half.
Conley tallied all 10 of her markers in the first half to lead a balanced Bulldog attack.
Junior guard Kenley Poling, Ashley Hevlin and sophomore Emily Gibson scored six points apiece. Hevlin tallied each of her six points in the second half.
Freshman Lucy Carter and freshman Te’a Griffith each scored five points. Carter drained a triple in the fourth period, the only three-pointer made by either team.
Adrienne Phillips led the Wildcats with 11 points. Alison Brooks and Madison Brooks each netted six markers. Only three Vanlue players scored.
Ada connected on 16 two-point goals, hit one triple and sank five of 10 free throws (50 percent).
Vanlue hit on nine two-pointers, no trifectas and converted just five of 14 charity stripe tosses (36 percent).
Through four games, Ada is averaging 38.3 points a game while allowing 36.5 ppg.
Ada hosts Perry (0-2) on Saturday in a non-league game.
