5 Bulldog boys receive BVC basketball honors
By Cort Reynolds
Ada senior Zack Zimmerman led five Bulldog cagers named to the All-Blanchard Valley Conference boys basketball teams in voting recently conducted by the league coaches.
Zimmerman was named to the 11-man first team all-league squad. The high-scoring senior wing led Ada in points and three-point goals and was one of the top Bulldog rebounders.
Versatile junior Carson Conley and senior wing Kayleb Hickman both earned a spot on the 10-player All-BVC second team. Both were among the team leaders in scoring, rebounds, three-pointers and steals.
Slashing senior defensive ace Gavin Oldfield and junior sharpshooting guard Blake Zoladz were tabbed honorable mention all-conference.
Ada finished 6-4 and fifth in the tough 11-team BVC this season. The Bulldogs are 15-7 heading into post-season play, their best regular season record in 16 years.
Arlington 6-10 center Calvin Willow was named BVC Player of the Year. Mark Bunn, who guided Van Buren to a 10-0 championship, was tabbed BVC Coach of the Year by his peers.
Arlington finished second in the BVC at 9-1, followed by Liberty-Benton (8-2), Arcadia (7-3) and Ada (6-4).
Pandora-Gilboa was sixth (5-5), followed by Riverdale (4-6), Elmwood (3-7), McComb (2-8), Leipsic (1-9) and Vanlue (0-10).
The Bulldog junior varsity finished 9-1 in the BVC, second only to Van Buren (10-0). The Ada JVs posted a sparkling 19-3 overall record.
