Dunlap is 106 lbs. State alternate

TROY __The Ada High School wrestling team had four grapplers compete in the Div. III Northwest wrestling district tournament at Troy’s Hobart Arena on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7.

Graham Local dominated to win the district team crown with 257.5 points. Versailles was a distant second with 108.5 points. Indian Lake (98) nosed out Miami East and West-Liberty Salem, who tied for fourth (96.5), and LCC (92.5).

The Bulldog wrestlers finished 32^nd at the 63-team tournament with 15 points.  

Ada freshman Carter Dunlap posted a 4-2 tournament record to finish fifth in the 106 lbs. class at the two-day event. By finishing fifth, he qualified to the state meet as an alternate in case a top-four finisher isn’t able to compete due to injury or illness.

Only the top four finishers per weight class automatically advance to the state tournament at Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center on March 13-15. Fifth-place finishers are alternates.

CARTER DUNLAP
Dunlap won his first round match Friday over Mt. Gilead sophomore Logan Cobb by pin in just 22 seconds. In the quarterfinals, he lost to Versailles junior Trent Huber by technical fall 19-2 to fall into the consolation bracket second round.

In his next match, the freshman pinned senior Urban Eckhardt of Carlisle in 53 seconds. In the ensuing round Saturday, he recorded a pin in just 32 seconds. Then in the consolation semifinals, he lost a 9-2 decision to drop into the fifth-place match and narrowly miss automatic state qualification.

Dunlap then earned a close 10-9 decision win over Clermont NE sophomore Alex Nuekam to finish fifth in the 16-wrestler bracket and become a state alternate.

Dunlap ended the tournament with a 26-14 season record. He scored all 15 Ada points at the tournament.

SILAS RIBLET
Bulldog senior Silas Riblet was one of four top seeds in the 16-man 126 lbs. division. He was upset by Indian Lake sophomore Brayden Riffell in a 12-2 first-round decision at the double-elimination tourney.

In the first consolation bracket round, he fell to sophomore Camden Horn of Danville in a 12-7 decision to end his season prematurely.

Riblet finished the season with a fine 34-7 record.

ZAIDEN DENSLOW
Ada senior Zaiden Denslow competed in the 120 lbs. bracket. 

Denslow lost his first-round match by pin to Clermont NE junior Jaxon Vining. He then fell by a 14-3 decision to Columbus Academy freshman Gavin Haberman in the opening consolation bracket round to end his season with an 8-17 mark.

KALE PEDERSEN
Bulldog junior Kale Pedersen competed in the 138 lbs. division. He dropped his first round match by pin to Liberty Union senior Jimmy Landis. 

In the consolation bracket, he then had his season ended with a 16-0 technical fall loss to Graham Local freshman Brookes Platfoot. Pedersen finished the season with a 13-20 record.
