Etta Jane (Kearns) Smith worked for the Council on Aging

Etta Jane (Kearns) Smith, age 87, of Lewisburg, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Wayne Healthcare, Greenville, Ohio. 

She was born on September 24, 1938, in Foraker, Ohio. Etta was the eighth of twelve children born to the late William and Helen (Ridgeway) Kearns.  In 1958, Etta married Charles Smith, Sr., and he preceded her in death in 2012. 

Etta is survived by her two daughters: Terri Reveron of Silver Springs, MD and Deidre (John) Krumpotich of Ft. Myers, FL; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorna (Paul) Tripp of Lewisburg. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles F. Smith, Jr; a grandson, John Marley; and seven siblings: Madeline Keel, Merle Kearns, Richard Kearns, Pete Kearns, Robert Kearns, Raymond Kearns and John Kearns. 

After graduating from high school, Etta moved to Washington, DC, to work for the FBI. After living in Rockville, Maryland, for many years, Etta returned to Ohio and worked for the Council on Aging in Kenton. Etta retired from the Council on Aging and previously worked for the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, Kenton. Etta was a dear Christian woman and was deeply loved by her family and lifelong friends. Her generous, heart-warming spirit will always be cherished, as well as the memories of lively family gatherings and the pure pleasure of devouring the delicious rolls and goodies she baked. 

The family is comforted in knowing that Etta is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  

It was Etta’s wish to be cremated.  Private family services will be held at a later date.
