ADA__The Ada High School baseball team was beaten soundly 25-3 by visiting Blanchard Valley Conference leader Elmwood on a warm Monday, April 13 at War Memorial Park.

The Royals pounded out 22 hits and eight doubles in the win. They scored three runs in the first inning and plated six in the third to build a 9-3 lead.

Elmwood then poured 16 runs across the plate in the top of the fifth to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.

Ada dropped to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the BVC with the home loss.

First-place Elmwood improved to 5-4-1 overall and 3-0 in BVC play after the road win.   

Ada was out-hit by the Royals, 22-4. Elmwood’s Zach Schafer drove in five runs on two doubles and a single to help lead the attack. He also scored three runs and drew a walk. 

Royal Marshal Taft also knocked in five runs with two doubles and a single while scoring three times.

Kasen Hammer and Abraham Keiffer each collected three RBI. Adam Abke smacked three hits and scored three runs. Ryken Zeigler doubled, hit two singles and scored three runs.

Bulldog third baseman Robert Shanks delivered a two-run single in the fourth inning. He was also hit by a pitch and walked once.

Ada catcher Andrew Allen, second sacker Thad Smith and outfielder Colt Archer each scored one run and stole one base apiece. Smith also singled in a run and walked. Allen and Brody Rister drew two walks apiece.

Shortstop Wes Mowery singled for the other Ada hit. The Bulldogs coaxed seven walks.

Ada left nine runners on base, while the Royals also stranded nine runners. Elmwood stole six bases.

Royal Gabe Schafer pitched five innings to earn the win. He allowed four hits and two earned runs with seven strikeouts and seven walks.

Ada plays at league foe Arlington (0-6, 0-2 BVC) on Wednesday, April 15. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play non-league foe Perry (3-1) at Dayton on Friday.
