Dr. Tom Holme to present the 2026 Kritzler Lectureship in Chemistry
MEDIA RELEASE__ONU welcomes the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Chemistry Education to discuss the future of the field.
The Ohio Northern University College of Arts & Sciences is proud to host Dr. Tom Holme for the 2026 Kritzler Lectureship in Chemistry. Dr. Holme, a Morrill Professor of Chemistry at Iowa State University and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Chemical Education, will visit campus for a public presentation on Thursday, April 9, at 6 p.m., in the Dicke Forum.
Holme is a preeminent figure in modern chemistry pedagogy and assessment. Having served as the director of the ACS Examinations Institute, his work has fundamentally shaped how chemistry is taught and assessed nationwide. His research group is at the forefront of educational innovation, exploring everything from sustainability to the use of augmented reality and AI in the classroom.
Holme’s lecture, titled “Understanding the chemical basis of sustainability as a core motivation for learning chemistry,” will delve into how environmental challenges can serve as a powerful driver for student engagement. The lecture is open to the public.
The Kritzler Lectureship in Chemistry provides the campus community with access to new developments in chemistry presented by scientists who are recognized as masterful communicators of ideas. It was established in 1996 as a means of highlighting fundamental new developments in the science of chemistry and biochemistry. Speakers are selected annually on the basis of distinguished contributions to chemical sciences and outstanding communication skills in the interpretation of their work for the public.
