Bulldog baseball shut out by Riverdale

ADA__The Ada High School baseball team lost to visiting Blanchard Valley Conference rival Riverdale 5-0 in the oft-delayed conclusion of their suspended game on Friday, May 22.

The Bulldogs trailed 3-0 when the game was stopped by rain on Monday, April 27 in the second inning. The game was postponed again this past Wednesday due to rain.

When play finally resumed, Riverdale plated another run in the second to extend their lead to 4-0. The Falcons tacked on a single run in the fourth. Neither team scored in the fifth, and the game was called after the minimum five frames needed for an official outing due to more rain. 

Ada dropped to 9-15 overall and finished 3-7 in the BVC after the conference finale defeat. The Bulldogs tied for eighth place in the 11-team league with Pandora-Gilboa.

Riverdale improved to 8-16 overall and ended up 4-6 in BVC play (seventh place) with the road win. Liberty-Benton took the league title with a 10-0 record.

The Bulldogs were out-hit by the Falcons, 6-3. Ada committed one error, while Riverdale made no miscues in the shortened contest.

Ada senior Mason Wibley stroked two singles to lead the Bulldog offense. He was also hit by a pitch.

Bulldog freshman Robert Shanks added the other Ada hit, and he also drew a walk. He started on the mound and went 1.3 innings. Shanks gave up three earned runs and two hits with one walk.

Brody Rister pitched 2.3 frames, allowing two hits and one earned run with one strikeout.

Gavin Guyton finished up on the hill. He hurled 1.3 innings of two-hit relief, allowing no runs. He struck out three Falcons.

Andrew Allen reached base once when he was hit by a pitch. Xavier Smith also coaxed one walk.

Falcon Tate Weber earned the pitching win. He hurled all five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks. He struck out six. Weber was also hit by a pitch and scored a run.

Falcon Grady Phelps smacked an RBI double for the game’s only extra-base hit. Carter Vent delivered a run-scoring single. Landon Passet and Owen Karcher had a hit and a run scored apiece.

Jackson Armrose and Kydin Reese each added a single.

Ada left seven runners on base, while Riverdale stranded four baserunners. 

The winner of Saturday's sectional advances to the district semifinals at McGuffey on Wednesday, May 27 at 4:30 p.m. vs. Parkway (11-15). The Panthers defeated Lima Perry (10-9) by a 13-3 score in their sectional final on Friday.
